How does a dry ice rust removal machine remove rust?
A dry ice rust removal machine utilizes solid carbon dioxide, commonly known as dry ice, which has the molecular formula CO2. Dry ice has a density of approximately 0.78 g/cm³, which is lower than the density of air, allowing it to float on water when in air. When dry ice sublimates, it transforms into gas, expanding nearly 3000 times in volume. Due to the extremely low temperature of sublimation (around -200°C), dry ice easily detaches from surfaces and adheres to them. When dry ice condenses, it forms a dense protective film that isolates oxides or sulfides on metals like iron or copper from oxygen in the air, achieving rust removal. This process also prevents atmospheric moisture and impurities from penetrating and corroding the metal surface.
